The Millworks in Novato

The Neighborhood: Novato's Old Town Has New Life

Location, Location, Location! The Millworks lies at the very eastern end of Grant Avenue in Novato's Old Town. Access to Highway 101 is a breeze (less than a block away). What's more, Novato's downtown underwent a major revitalization a few years ago, and the result was a welcoming business district with a mix of independently-owned restaurants and shops. When you live at The Millworks, you're just steps away from some of the best that Marin County has to offer.

Perhaps the most obvious shopping opportunity is Whole Foods Market, which makes up the street-level floor of The Millworks building. Whole Foods is expected to open in Spring 2010.

More About Novato

Novato is the second-largest city in Marin County, located about 20 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. There are about 50,000 people here. Once you move to Novato, you'll never want to leave (that's been our experience, anyway!) As we often say, the lower home prices (relative to other Marin cities) will attract you, but the vibrant small-town feel and character will win you over.  There's a somewhat laid-back attitude here that is very welcoming and comfortable.

Novato's close proxmity to Sonoma, Napa and the wine country also make it a convenient home base.

"A Perfect Storm:" Why it's a Great Time to Buy in Novato

Home prices are down, interest rates are at their lowest point in decades, and of particular importance to Novato: The Highway 101 widening project has reached a major milestone as of February 2nd! The new freeway lane through San Rafael is now open, effectively widening the highway.

The California Dept. of Transportation (Caltrans) estimates the widening of Highway 101 through Marin County will slash 15-18 minutes off the commute from Novato south through Marin. This is potentially a big deal for Novato home values.

In the past, many buyers have written off Novato as a place to live because of the often sluggish morning commute south. That's part of the reason Novato home prices are less than in central and southern Marin. But we believe, as do many, that a significantly improved morning commute is going to create more demand for Novato homes. As you know, more demand equals higher prices (especially because there is almost no growth in the form of new construction.)

The bottom line? It's an opportune time to get your piece of Novato real estate.
